My solo performance piece I Was Barbie will be remounted for the Performance Studies International conference.  It will be showing as a double bill with a performance from Canadian performance artists 2boys.tv

The international conference will happen this year in Toronto in June.

Dr. Judith Rudakoff is the offical curator of I Was Barbie for PSi.  She will present and contextualize the work for conference attendees.

It’s a great honour to be asked to perform at PSi.  The convergence of artists, intellectuals and academia is important to me and the growth of the work.  Below is the PSi mission statement from their website http://www.psi-web.org/

PSi is a professional association founded in 1997 to promote communication and exchange among scholars and practitioners working in the field of performance. We seek to create opportunities for dialogue among artists, thinkers, activists and academics.  PSi is actively committed to creating a membership base of artists and scholars throughout the world. The upcoming production of The Silicone Diaries has being invited to be apart of The Pivot Festival at the Nakai Theatre in Whitehorse, Yukon. The festival runs January 26-31, 2010.

I don’t know too many details yet but I’m thrilled to bring my show up there. I will also probably being doing talkbacks after the show as well as attend a roundtable discussion with the other artists (6-8) who are attending the festival.

Big thanks go out to Artistic Director of the Nakai David Skelton for believing in the work.  More thanks go out to the amazing women who told David about The Silicone Diaries –my dramaturg Judith Rudakoff, Buddies in Bad Times Associate Artist Erika Hennebury and my voice teacher Fides Krucker!

Looking forward to this…

Created and performed by Nina Arsenault

Dramaturgy by Judith Rudakoff

Buddies is thrilled to host this powerful and intriguing tell-all by local transsexual celeb and queer art goddess Nina Arsenault.

Nov 14 – 21, 2009

Transsexual Nina Arsenault’s sixty cosmetic surgeries and procedures, augmentations and alterations may be “fake” but her diaries are nothing but real. The Silicone Diaries presents a full, frank and fierce exploration of the contradictory sensations and the joy and tumult indelibly written on, through and throughout her body. Her transformation from an awkward man who once resembled Crispin Glover into a 36D-26-40  bombshell involved Playboy bunny fantasies, black market injections and a crying Game-style collision with rocker Tommy Lee.  Continue reading
