The “Manly Man” episode of The Jon Dore Show aired again last week. I had a really nice time shooting this for the Comedy Network. I think it originally aired about 1 year ago.
On set, everyone was super sweet and very relaxed. The director even let me see myself on the monitor to make sure I liked the way I was lit. They were kind enough to shoot me from the three quarter angle which I like because I think it is the most flattering. And, the producers, Jon and everyone on set assured me that no one would be making any transphobic jokes.
Still, they couldn’t help but slip in a gag where all of a sudden John is replaced by a black man wearing the same shirt. This seems like a satire suggesting quite ridiculously that Jon Dore might be a black man trapped in a white man’s body just as many transsexuals say they are trapped in the wrong body. Of course they inserted this in the editting process long after i was off-set.
I get that they are trying to be funny and trying to be smart. Lots of people even say on youtube that this is their favourite part of the video.
I’m glad I really slapped Jon Dore.
You rock Nina…
That was awesome.
Good to see you yesterday.

I’ve seen this episode several times, and each time it seems to refreshingly funny and poignant at the same time.
Nina, kudos to you.
Coming as soon as it did after the ‘comfy in your own skin’ comment (which was his) makes me wonder if the cut away joke wasnt about ‘This guy is comfy in his black skin’ rather than ‘Jon might be a black guy inside’. That’s actually how I took it when I first saw that segment
