legendary story teller Spalding Gray

I am touched and honoured today to make contact with John Boland, the Webmaster to the Estate of Spalding Gray (spaldinggray.com). John left this comment under yesterday’s post but I thought I would share it here, too, cause Spalding is such an inspiration to me. This really made my day.

Below is his message to ninaarsenault.com

“most of all, Spalding Gray could surf an unpredictable, sometimes violent, sea of emotion, sensory details, memory, intellectual analysis, surreal personal metaphors”

Thank you for the wonderful, kind words about Spalding. I will add you to the monologist page and I think your whole piece would be wonderful under Fan Writings. It sounds like you missed Shawn Watson doing his recent amazing performance of Swimming to Cambodia in Nova Scotia.

It’s posts like yours that make my years of work on the official site worthwhile.
Please note that in the last couple of days I have changed web hosts and in the transfer, many of my jpg files were corrupted/lost. So the site (www.spaldinggray..com) right now is a mess in terms of the sidebar. I am dancing as fast as I can to either restore the graphics, or better still I think I may convert the whole site finally to clean CSS coding. This all may take at least a week, but the end result will be very nice. Take a look at the transfer site http://www.spaldinggray.net to get an idea of how sharp the site will look like. I love your site. I was blown away.

Likewise I’m sure. I find it quite humourous(Canadian spelling, eh) that the one pic that you pick of Spalding is by a photographer who has been the only photographer of Spalding to refuse the official site use of his picture…LOL…
However, Nina, I believe we have to stop meeting like this and it may be simpler if you just email me.
One one hand, I am sad and sorry the Spalding site is such a mess right now as this has given it some good views I’m sure. On the other hand, going thru what I’m going thru now personally – well, to see your response in the middle of a sleepless night has saved me…
    thanks Nina

ps – I showed your site to a friend who is a web page wizard. He was impressed by whoever does your site – very good coding! Our compliments to him!

My sincere apologies. The picture you used is not the one I was thinking of. It is by Paula Court, a wonderful NYC photographer who is very kind in allowing her photos to be used on our official site. My apologies to Nina and Paula – but still not to that other photographer who did not grant permission…

Nina, We both share this passion. I felt like I had a shared revelatory intersection with you as Swimming to Cambodia engulfed the evening we spent together.

  • Thanks for the great post. I always try to bookmark coding or webmaster related posts like this one.
